Press Release for Blood Drive

This piece went out to several newspapers along with area businesses and any organization that might have been able to send donors. I like this piece because of its the great interviews I did to get the quotes that appear here.

A blood drive will take place on March 17 at XXXXXX, in XXXXX.

The “Bloodmobile,” a mobile unit of the Red Cross, will be stationed in front of XXXX to accept blood donations throughout the day. Anyone over the age of 17 that meets the requirements for blood donation may stop by Casa to give blood.

Those who volunteer to give blood will be treated to goodie bags created by XXXX’s Youth Development Program (YDP). Members of the program, teens from local high schools, have already volunteered to give blood and are encouraging others to do the same on upcoming St. Patrick’s Day.

St. Patrick’s Day might not be the first date that comes to mind for a Blood Drive, but this year, “your blood IS a pot of gold,” according to Dr. XXXXXX, counselor and Community Outreach Coordinator at XXXX Shelter.

Dr. XXXXXX, a counselor who has been with the shelter for nearly seven years, feels a personal connection with the need to give blood. Her twin daughters, born months premature, had multiple transfusions during the first few weeks of their tiny lives.
“I am a strong believer in the fact that things come back around, I’m thankful for the people who donated blood and helped saved my daughters’ lives,” says Dr. XXXXXX.

According to the Red Cross, every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood. A simple 15-minute stop at XXXXX Shelter on March 17 can save up to three lives.

"It is an important event that YDP hopes will have a large impact in the community,” says XXX XXXXX, president of the group and junior at XXX XXXXX XXXX High School.
